last year I purchased a mobidrive control for the sole purpose to fit onto an automatic car rental for our trip to Ireland.
Before we went I removed the control off my own car and fitted the mobidrive in its place in order to get some practice time and to figure out how everything works. It was such a breeze. After a couple of dodgy starts and stops I got the knack of it and it was plain sailing. I kept it on for the next 2 weeks until it had to be removed and packed into the luggage.
The car we rented was VW golf, and so I measured it up prior to departure so that no alterations needed to be made during installation. It was just tightening 2 wingnuts on the pedals. (about 5 minutes)
During this trip I drove 2900 km north south east and west of Ireland without one mishap or problem with the controls. I did get a bit annoyed with the rattling but if it were a long time control, I would have made a plan to prevent the rattling.
Because the accelerator is depressed with the thumb I did encounter terrible pains in the thumb which persisted for weeks afterwards. I think that was because I had never exerted my thumb for that extended period. I think a trigger mechanism should also be looked into.
All in all I can call the mobidrive a success as it served its purpose for me as I got wherever I wanted to go and got the car back to the rental agency safely and unscathed.
